Discover Your SASSA Payment Dates and New Rates for August 2025

For thousands of beneficiaries, SASSA remains a life support system. SASSA has placed new dates for the payments in August 2025 and increased the grant amounts for the beneficiaries who are undergoing escalation of their living expenses. This article takes you through the payment schedule, the new grant amounts, and some tips that ensure you get your money on time with little or no hassle.

2025 August Payment Schedule

This is to eliminate congestion at payment points and ensure smooth payments. SASSA has provided a staggered schedule for payments. Stipulated payment dates for August 2025 are mentioned below:

SN Disburement Type Date

1 Older Persons: Tuesday, 05 August 2025

2 Disability: Wednesday, 06 August 2025

3 Child Support: Thursday, 07 August 2025

4 Social Relief of Distress (SRD): Payment in a rolling manner from 05 August 2025

Payments for the SRD are generally processed from the 5th of each month and vary depending upon when an application was approved. Beneficiaries can verify this on the SASSA SRD portal (srd.sassa.gov.za), by placing in their ID number and registered phone number.

Updated Grant Rates for August 2025

Grant amounts from SASSA were increased from April 2024 against inflation and an economic crunch. Further adjustments for August 2025 are being proposed now. The new rates are:

Older Persons Grant: R2,190 for the ages 60–74; R2,210 for above 75 years

Disability Grant: R2,310

Child Support Grant: R510

SRD Grant: R370

This increase reinstates some of the relief for over 19 million beneficiaries who experience an unemployment rate of 32.9% and a poverty rate of 55.5%, according to the World Bank.

Eligibility and Compliance

Before any one is granted these, he/she must specifically fulfill set criteria. Persons must be South African citizens or permanent residents; their incomes must be below certain thresholds, such as R8 070 a month for a single person for permanent grants; and they must not be in receipt of any other social grants. The termination by SASSA of some 248 000 beneficiaries during the ongoing process underlines the urgency for beneficiaries to update their personal details so that payments will not be suspended.

Some Tips for Late Payments

Based upon the steps listed therein, one should duly follow the following steps so as to ensure that earlier payment is made.

Confirm the Payment Dates: The dates can be confirmed in the schedules indicated on the SASSA website or by calling 0800 60 10 11.

Keep Your Details Up to Date: Update your bank details or any other details on the site srd.sassa.gov.za or at the SASSA offices.

Choose the Most Secure Payment Methods: You want to make the payments through a bank, SASSA Gold Card, mobile wallet, or other channels accepted as highly secure and are rarely the sources of delay.

Avoid Peak Times: Put an allowance of from two to three days after the payment date, for at an inconvenient time you may find yourself getting annoyed by incessant collection notices via ATM withdrawals and paypoint collections.
