The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced the official payment schedule for August 2025, offering some clarity to millions of South Africans who depend on social grants to meet their day-to-day expenses. These grants are a lifeline for some 28 million recipients, including elderly persons, disabled persons, caregivers, and so on. The article below discusses the confirmed dates for grant payments in August 2025, updated amounts of grants, and tips to prepare for accessing the funds on time.
SASSA Payment Schedule for the Month of August 2025
Grant payments continue to stagger for SASSA to avoid congestion at different ATMs, post offices, and retail pay points such as Shoprite, Pick n Pay, and Boxer. The official payment schedule is as follows for August 2025:
- Older Persons Grant (and War Veterans) will be paid on Tuesday, 5th August 2025.
- Disability Grant (and Grant-in-Aid) will be paid on Wednesday, 6th August 2025.
- Children’s Grants (Child Support, Foster Child, Care Dependency): Thursday, 7th August 2025.
- Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant R370: August 25–30, 2025 (exact date varies; check the status online)
There is also a new date reserved for a fourth payment for beneficiaries under review, which falls on Friday, 08 August 2025. This facilitates the imminent payment of grants following the verification of eligibility.
Adjusted Grant Amounts as of August 2025
Since April 2025, SASSA has adjusted the amounts of various grants to counter the effects of inflation. The adjusted monthly amounts are:
- Older Persons Grant: R2,310 (60–74 years); R2,330 (75 and older)
- Disability Grant: R2,315
- War Veterans Grant: R2,315
- Care Dependency Grant: R2,315
- Child Support Grant: R560 per child; R810 for orphan child’s grant (including R250 top-up)
- Foster Child’s Grant: R1,250
- SRD Grant: R370
How to Avoid Late Payments
SASSA advises that these precautionary steps be undertaken by beneficiaries to avoid payment complications:
Updating of Personal Details: Keep your banking details, mobile number, and address updated. Incorrect information may cause delays in your payments. For SRD grants, use the SASSA Mobile Number Update Tool.
Check SRD Status: SRD R370 grant payments have no set date for payment and vary from month to month. Check your status on the official SASSA website (srd.sassa.gov.za) using your ID number and phone number. It may take about 2 to 3 days for the funds to reflect.
Avoid Crowds: Grants remain in your account until withdrawn, so be sure to collect the money a day or two after the latest payment date in order to avoid long queues.
Stay Fraud-Aware: Keep your PIN confidential and report any suspicious acts or identity theft to the SASSA fraud hotline at 0800 60 10 11. Only follow official SASSA avenues for any updates.
Why They Might Be Delayed
They could be delayed due to incorrect banking details; verification; errors with the system; public holidays; fraud investigations; and cash shortages at post offices who are prepared to bank payments. A beneficiary under review will face delays until such time as they are cleared, with a total of more than 210,000 grants placed under review in June 2025.
Plan for August 2025
- Mark your calendar well in advance, and verify early regarding your grant status. For SRD recipients, check your status once weekly during the last week of August. Contact or refer to sassa.gov.za, or call 0800 60 10 11 for any assistance. Stay informed and prepared so that your grant lands into your pockets on time.
