The South African Social Security Agency announced a huge grant increase for August 2025 to ease the burden of inflationary pressures on nearly 19 million beneficiaries. Inflation has affected food, transport, and utility services, and these adjustments are aimed at helping vulnerable households in keeping with their purchasing power. This article details the new amounts paid per month, payout dates as confirmed, and key tips to ensure smooth collection of grants.
SASSA Grant Increase: August 2025
Beginning the first of August 2025, a two-step increase was implemented to erase economic pressures with the second step kicking in this month. Updated grant amounts are as follows:
Older Persons Grant: R2,315 for ages 60–74 (increase of R125 on an earlier R2,190) and R2,335 for ages above 75 (increase of R125 on an earlier R2,210).
- Disability Grant: R2,315 monthly from R2,190 monthly (i.e., an increase of R125).
- Child Support Grant: R560 per child, with a R270 top-up for orphaned children (total R830).
- Foster Child Grant: R1,250 per month, which is a modest increase to assist foster caregivers.
- Care Dependency Grant: R2,315 per month, in line with disability support.
- Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant: It remains at R370, with no increase announced yet.
Even with all these adjustments, these beneficiaries in their daily lives face this challenge in being able to afford groceries, fees, and health care, with a 5.2% inflation rate and 6.1% food inflation in 2024 finally making a difference.
August 2025 Payment Schedule
SASSA has organized the August 2025 payment schedule in such a way as to reduce congestion at pay points and enable easy distribution to the beneficiaries. The confirmed dates are:
- Older Persons Grant: 2 August 2025
- Disability Grant: 5 August 2025
- Child Support, Foster Care, and Care Dependency Grants: 6 August 2025
- SRD Grant: 16–29 August 2025 (specific dates depend on area; visit srd.sassa.gov.za to receive SMS notifications)
Unfair exclusions will be prevented for those who are under profile reviews by the setting of a new payment date on August 8, 2025. Until beneficiaries decide to withdraw from their accounts, the funds shall remain there. They can collect a little later: 2–3 days after peak-hour times.
How to Ensure Smooth Grant Collection
