SASSA Confirms August 2025 Payment Dates for R350, Old Age, and Disability Grants

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) announced, as far as 2025, that the full payment calendar for the whole month of August had been prepared for the payment of all social grant beneficiaries.

These grants, namely the SRD R370 grant, the Old Age pension and the Disability grant, form the lifeline of about over 28 million South Africans economically challenged, with 55.5% of the population below the poverty line and the unemployment rate at 32.9% in the year 2025. The staggered dates have been put into place more for practical reasons, such as a timely and orderly disbursement of grants and to prevent congestion at pay points.

Old Age Grant Pay Dates

Payments for old-age grants will begin on the 5th of August 2025 for beneficiaries aged 60 and above. Grants are paid at a rate of R2,180 per month for application ages of 60-74 while those applicable for applicants above 75 years are paid R2,200, up-lifted in October 2025 to R2,190 and R2,210, respectively.

The monies will become second in priority to provisional claims for essential expenses for the elderly such as food, shelter, and medical cover. Beneficiaries are advised not to rush to the ATM or shops like Shoprite and Pick n Pay to withdraw as these funds stay in the accounts of beneficiaries and can be withdrawn when needed.

Disability Date Payments Awarding New Grantees

Since 6 August 2025, a Disability Grant will have a payment rate of R2,310 per month. Physically verified disabled conditions will be verified if a person applies for a medical report by way of an application within three months.

The staggered times are arranged a day after Old Age Grants to avoid long queues and speed up the payments to frail beneficiaries. SASSA advises beneficiaries to update any change in banking details so that it will not delay payment of grant funds, which can be accessed through direct bank deposits or at a partnered SASSA gold card retailer.

Payment Dates for the R370 SRD Grant

For the year 2025, the SRD Grant has been increased to R370 and will, as such, be disbursed on a rolling basis from the 25th to 30th August. So unlike in other grants, SRD is not paid on a fixed date, and beneficiaries would have to check whether any money has been paid either through the SASSA website (https://srd.sassa.gov.za) or WhatsApp (082 046 8553) by providing their ID and registered phone number.

From there, it would take two to three bank working days for the payment to appear, depending on each bank. This grant assists unemployed persons aged between 18 and 59 years who do not receive any other social grants or unemployment benefits.

In Business

The beneficiaries shall verify that the payment has been made before carrying out any further action. Beneficiaries should also verify the accuracy and update of the bank details and other documents belonging to the beneficiary.

The PIN shall not be divulged to anyone, lest the beneficiary be held for indirect fraudulent transactions committed in his or her name through the use of the PIN. The payment can be withdrawn at any of the ATMs, Post Office outlets, and accredited outlets such as Checkers and Boxer.

It would be best for the beneficiaries to do these visits during non-peak times to avoid long queues, which if happened, they much report those attempts to the SASSA Call Center via 0800 60 10 11 or email GrantEnquiries@sassa.gov.za. Tracking other events through the proper channels will have saved them from any delays caused by verification issues or unannounced holidays.

The Commitment Toward Prompt Support.

Disbursing monies according to the stipulated payment schedule-the body of government known as SASSA is very keen to see that the person deserving of such a grant receives it at the right time.

Ongoing reviews of eligibility must form the very estar for such grants to be suspended until the compliance of such applicants is assured. These grants provide the barest sustenance for dignity and caregiving for those at South Africa’s most vulnerable end.
