According to the payment calendar for August to September 2025 released by SASSA, the payments to social grantees are to be promptly made there. R370 Social Relief of Distress Grant, Old-Age-Pension Grant, and Disability Grant payments are important for beneficiaries to, for example, pay for food, transport to health providers, or medicines. The revised calendar also aims to curb overcrowding at pay points and meanwhile offer better service. Subsequently, schedules, with useful information, are made available to the beneficiaries for use:
R370 SRD Grant
As of April 2025, adjustments of the SRD amount were made from R350 to R370 to assist unemployed South Africans between the ages of 18 and 59 who are not receiving any other social grants or any unemployment benefits. SRD payments thus commenced on August 7, and staggered batches of payments shall be processed all the way until August 30.
As under-system pressure, ing will result in a system collapse, it must be avoided at all costs. September 2025 will be different in that it will also begin on the 5th. Beneficiaries must check their payment status on the SASSA portal (srd.sassa.gov.za) with their ID and registered phone number because payment dates are ever-changing depending on whether an application has been approved. Payments can be channelled via bank account, SASSA cards, or through retailers, including Pick n Pay or Boxer.
Old Age Pension
For older people, the Old Age Pension, given the current amounts of R2,310 for 60 to 74-year-olds and R2,330 for above 75s, remains the dignity payment. Payments go from August 1st through August 3rd in 2025 and remain the same come September 1st. Pre-disbursement thus allows pensioners to skip those lines at pay points, such as Shoprite or Post Office.
The Beneficiary ought to correct direct payments into their bank accounts to avoid delays and long queues. One needs only to make sure that the account number awarded for payments is the correct one; otherwise, all will be subjected to a delay due to giving of an incorrect number.
Disability Grant
At present, in 2025, the grant supports the incomes of those who cannot work due to their disabilities to the tune of R2,310. Payments are scheduled for August 6, thus Grant-In-Aid is also disbursed on this date. From the 3rd of September onward, payments shall be made if beneficiaries supply valid medical reports and income declarations which attest to income below the SASSA threshold for eligibility.
SASSA has allowed biometric verification at some pay points for security reasons; hence, the ID must be carried with the beneficiary. Should documentation be outdated or insufficient, payment releases may be delayed and recipients can always update documentation via the SASSA portal.
Preparation Tips for Beneficiaries
Status of SASSA card must be checked by the beneficiary prior to payment processes so payment issues can be resolved over instruction to update bank details or contacts through the online portal and WhatsApp (082 046 8553).
Having gated favorable checks on grants status helps avoid any incidences whereby a benefactor is treated as ‘failing verifications’ or is considered ‘fraud.’ There is a toll-free helpline provided by SASSA (0800 60 10 11) for answering inquiries.
Also important to remember: Beneficiaries are discouraged from rushing on the very first day to withdraw their monies, as the money would stay in their accounts until they are prepared to withdraw it. This would allow beneficiaries to budget for the months of August and September 2025, given SASSA offers adequate support.
